Until
sixteen months ago, Mrs. Norma life was no different with many
other poor rural families in Indonesia who always embracing
misery, limited opportunities to have brighter future, and
hopeless. Moreover, Mrs. Norma family live became harder when her
husband got sick few years ago and could not work to raise money
for his family anymore.
This condition make Mrs. Norma shall raise money to
meet her family needs. Mrs. Norma raising money by selling
palm-leaf roof which proceed up to IDR. 13.000,- a day (equal with
USD I.41). This amount of money sure so tight to meet her family
needs who has three children. But, that’s all she can did to raise
money. The worse thing, she did not know how she can re-build her
family’s hope.
But since Mrs. Norma joining Heifer project in July
2006, Mrs. Norma family lives gradually became brighter. Mrs.
Norma’s family hope restore when BPRPI (Heifer ID’s project
partner) included her as one of project participant. Mrs. Norma
was so happy and grateful when she received 4 healthy and pregnant
sheep from BPRPI in September 2006. In addition, Mrs. Norma also
receiving horticulture seeds for kitchen garden from BPRPI. As
Mrs. Norma received trainings, livestock, and agricultural
support, she felt empowered and self-confident.
Assisted by her husband and her 3 children, Mrs.
Norma raise her sheep carefully and with full of love and hope.
Her hard work resulting sweet return. Her sheep growing healthy
and productively. In addition, Mrs. Norma saves up to IDR 3.000,-
a day (equal with USD .33) because she does not need spend money
any more to buy vegetables, she harvest them from her kitchen
garden. For others perhaps this amount of money is small, but for
her it is meaningful.
According to pass on plan, in March 2007, Mrs.
Norma should pass on her 4 offspring to other needy family. She
did it. She passed on 4 sheep in March 2007, only 7 months after
receiving original sheep from Heifer project !. Mrs. Norma really
committed to help other needy people through pass on. In addition,
Mrs. Norma is also committed to help other through her skills on
basic veterinary since she is a Community Animal Health Volunteer
in her villages. Many project participants and other villagers
receives her support in animal health and productive. Mrs. Norma
skills contributed significantly in improving animal health and
productivity in her neighborhood. Considering her outstanding
commitment and achievement, in June 2007, Heifer Indonesia team
selected her as the 2nd Wild Winner.

In May 2007, Mrs. Norma told to BPRPI that she wish
her children could finish their school as high as possible and she
could improve her home condition through money proceed from
selling sheep too. In November 2007, Mrs. Norma and her family
member happier since one of her dream came true! She can afford to
improve her home condition with money proceed from selling 4
sheep, sheep manure, and money prize as the WilD winner. Every
week Mrs. Norma raise money by selling few bags of manure and gain
about 1.67 USD. Her home now made from bricks and wood, not bamboo
anymore. Today, Mrs.Norma has 4 remaining female and one male
sheep as her precious assets. She has not rich yet, but her future
is far getting brighter. Mrs. Norma deeply thanks Heifer and BPRPI
for helping her restore her family hope for better future. She
said, she doesn’t know what she could do for her children future
without Heifer and BPRPI help.
